As the name suggests, this rum has been last aged on used beer barrels from Mikkeller's popular beer, Beer Geek Vanilla Shake, whose barrels exhale vanilla, coffee and malt notes from the beer's ageing time. Before that, the molasses-based rum has been in used bourbon barrels in Guatemala's tropical climate.
The result is a lovely sweet rum with classic flavors and scents of vanilla, toffee, a little orange and a lightly seasoned touch of barrel, while the beer is clearly sensed by a delicious malted aftertaste that separates this rum from its Spanish-styled equals (the soft and sweet rum).
Scented notes of vanilla, caramel chocolate fudge and baked fruit.
Tasting notes of sweet vanilla, brandy-flavored raisins and caramel chocolate fudge.
Phantom Spirits was born out of the ashes of the long-standing Mikkeller/Copenhell Spirit collaboration – an eerie-themed annual release led by former event and communications manager Mixen Lindberg. Launched at the end of 2016 by Mixen Lindberg, Frederik Plum, owner of Den Klodsede Bjørn Vodka (The Clumsy Bear Vodka), and Mikkel Borg Bjergsø from Mikkeller, as a way to pursue the many ideas and concepts developed during the creative process of conjuring up these often provocative, heavy metal spirits.
Phantom Spirits stepped onto the scene with their progressive beer barrel-aging rum project, and is currently in exciting processes with multiple collaborations with various producers in spirits, beer, wine, food and more.
Expect the unexpected.
